The Path leading from the Land of Éllad to the Sanctuary of Wetemaa is since the time of Wanne guarded by the Guard of the Path. The first Guard of the Path was Karu, Wanne´s friend and - except Wanne himself and Ailred - the only man who crossed the Dankrad over from Attérwid to Éllad by nothern path. The Guards of the Path maintained mainly the first part of The Path ending at The Sanctuary. They accompanied the Sanctuary men to The Sanctuary, they took care about their supplies etc. However, each Guard of the Path was obligated to walk all The Path once in his life and to handed the knowledge which way it leads over to his successor. Without walking all The Path nobody could became the Guard. Nobody besides the Guards cross the Dankrad mountain this way, too. Men who wanted to cross Dankrad rather asked the help of the mountain leaders from the village The Two Axes.
